THIS is yet another way to say what I’ve been trying to say all along. What I want to respond with when I hear people tell me that they just aren’t ready to do a photo session with their family because “I need to lose weight/grow my hair out/get my hair cut/need better makeup/don’t know what to wear/insert excuse here”. What they mean is that they are afraid that their images won’t show what they’ve been conditioned to believe fits the definition of “beautiful”. THIS is what they need to hear over and over again until they believe it:
“Remember there are differences…but there are no flaws.”
It’s so easy to believe it for others – your mom, your sister, your best friend. You seriously want to poke her when she starts talking about her “flaws” because you know that it is ridiculous and she is beautiful in her own way. But somehow, you can’t do that for yourself.
Stop looking at fashion magazines, and Pinterest, and other people’s facebook pictures with crazy props and super-styled fake settings that takes the attention off of the actual subjects and mentally comparing yourself to those. You are JUST as awesome. In fact, better – because you are interestingly different from everyone else. Just like those talent-seeking TV shows like The Voice, or American Idol – the best contestants are those WHO ARE DIFFERENT!
