A few years ago I did a once-daily shopping post for a month to give my blog readers some ideas for their Holiday shopping, and it was a huge hit! You might want to go and check it out, because some of those ideas are probably still good ones. I did it THIS year on my business page on Facebook, simply because it was easier to do there. However I do realize that not everyone is on Facebook, so I’m happy to post a little list here of my finds and their links. Here are the first eight days’ worth…I’ll post the next eight in another week. I hope I help you get at least a few people crossed off your list!
Day 1: I’m all about games and toys that are fun but also engaging enough to stretch the brain or motor skills…and Perplexus does it! Fun for the whole family (6-8 years old and up, although I did see a 5 year old client whip through it) and the kind of thing that kids can easily beat adults at…it requires the kind of “try & try again” perseverance that is valuable in life. It’s the kind of toy you can leave out on your coffee table because someone is always picking it up and fiddling with it to try to beat their personal of family record. Several different models, prices range from $17-$30, easy to find in your local stores or online. http://www.perplexus.net/index.php
Day 2: The Giving Keys (TGK) is a LA-based jewelry company founded by singer-songwriter and actress Caitlin Crosby. Working to re-purpose old keys into modern jewelry and accessories, The Giving Keys engraves inspiring words on keys and then creates necklaces, bracelets, rings and iPhone cases with the engraved keys. Recipients of the accessories are encouraged to one day give their key away to someone who needs the message more than they do. TGK opts to employ LA locals who are transitioning out of homelessness to create their product. TGK has partnered with Chrysalis, PATH, and United Way to support homeless populations in Los Angeles County. The Giving Keys is headquartered in Los Angeles and can be found in over 500 retail locations worldwide including Nordstrom,TOMS Marketplace,Anthropologie, and Altar’d State. Day 3: I have a thing for nice, big, well made coffee mugs that make me smile and feel like facing the day after that first cup. I particularly love this one, as it was gifted to me by a dear friend following my mastectomy. This would be a perfect little gift for a girlfriend, a teacher or boss,or a hostess gift! Link is here
Day 4: If you have teens or young adult children, one of the BEST gifts I can think of is a copy of Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover! It’s a good solid system for them to manage their money, stay out of/get out of debt, and plan for their future. It has literally changed people’s lives! A few years ago I bought each of my daughters and nieces this book. You can check out his website and order from there, or his books can be found in any bookstore: http://www.daveramsey.com/home/?snid=home.lifemoney
Day 5: The FITBIT flex is a wireless activity and sleep monitoring wristband that is all the rage now, for those interested in increasing their daily activity and fitness level. During the day, it tracks steps, distance, and calories burned. At night, it tracks your sleep quality and wakes you silently in the morning. It allows you to set goals, stay motivated, and track your progress. Perfect gift for the person in your life who is into fitness, or wants to increase their activity level, and it’s only $99 (although you can get advanced models that do even more, or a Tory Burch version that’s pretty stylish for $195 in gold or silver metal). This is the kind of thing that I would LOVE to have, but probably would not buy for myself. Lots of stores have them, so you might be able to score a Black Friday deal! https://www.fitbit.com/flex
Day 6: I love reading almost more than anything, but I have trouble finding time to do it – I often feel guilty lingering over a good book when I have a ton of stuff I need to do (or should do!). That’s where Audible.com comes in. I have a monthly subscription of $14.95 a month (about the cost of a new book) which buys me 1 credit a month, good for one book. The books range from 8 hours to 33 hours to listen to on my iphone, depending on the title length. The best part? I can listen while I’m doing other things! During my walk, while driving to PA, folding laundry, making dinner or cleaning house – it all goes so much better while I’m listening! You can download the books right onto your device wirelessly, and delete it to free space when you’ve finished. Once you buy the book with your credit, you have access to it at any time; you can download it again. It also remembers where you left off! The best part is NO DUSTING those books, or finding room for them, or moving them. If you have a serious reader in the family, this is a great gift!
Day 7: In a world where men largely outnumber women in science, technology, engineering and math, girls lose interest in these subjects as early as age 8. Construction toys develop an early interest in these subjects, but for over a hundred years, they’ve been considered “boys’ toys.” GoldieBlox is determined to change the equation. By tapping into girls’ strong verbal skills, the story + construction set bolsters confidence in spatial skills while giving young inventors the tools they need to build and create amazing things. Prices range from $20-$60 depending on the set. Give YOUR favorite little girl a gift that disrupts “the pink aisle” in the store and inspires her inner engineer! www.goldieblox.com
Day 8: If you are the type of person who loves sending cards, you are probably also the person who takes extra care to make them look good…and if you aren’t, you probably know someone who is! This is a delightful, custom self-inking address stamp that is perfect for such a person. It lasts forever, and no worries about running out of address labels. At $45, perfect for a gift for someone special. New homeowners perhaps? TONS of designs on the site; your biggest problem will be narrowing it down to your favorite! http://www.tinyprints.com/shop/custom-self-inking-stamps.htm
