January is a time of resolutions, usually about ways to feel better and be healthier and less stressed. I am a die-hard list maker, so of course I’m a resolution-maker too. I feel that I’m at my best when I’m focused and productive, and lists help me. However, I tend to get bogged down in the mundane or the repetitive stuff, and I know that a lot of the time it’s because I am putting off something that is a little more difficult. Or something that is a task where I’m not quite sure where to begin. In these cases I try to break it down into smaller tasks, even though there is a part of me that feels like if I can’t do the whole job – then I don’t want to even start it. Sometimes I’m just on the edge of being completely overwhelmed, and those are the days that I’m tempted to just wrap myself up in a blanket on the sofa, eat chocolate, and binge watch bad TV.
This is where my mantra kicks in: Do just ONE thing today.
So simple. And so brilliant.
You don’t have to worry about getting every. single. thing. done. In fact, you just have to do ONE thing. That thing could be as simple as making your menus for the week and grocery list, or, on a particularly bad day, just getting up and getting dressed. I have found that once you get your one thing done, it’s way easier to do another small thing. And then maybe another…or maybe not. It’s all good. And for me, it works really really well.
It works so well that I want to give away my favorite post-it notes to you:
Just for fun, I will send one pad of these to 7 people selected randomly from the comments below (because I have 7 left, lol). Leave a comment on this post telling me what YOUR New Year’s resolution is, or what YOU do to stay focused, and hit the “like” or “share” button to post on your Facebook page. That’s it! Winners will be selected and notified on Monday January 12th, and I’ll drop them in the mail.
