Well, how about that? I have been participating in the March Marketing Challenge over at the Photographer Cafe, my go-to resource for simple, elegantly designed marketing templates or busy photographers. Today they shared the story of my journey as a photographer who has had to learn marketing to keep current and competitive in today’s over-saturated market.
You can see it here – thank goodness I updated my profile picture:
I much, much prefer to concentrate on the actual “photography” part of my portrait photography business, but not surprisingly there is a LOT more to it than just taking good pictures. I spend more time on bookkeeping, website maintenance, and marketing than I would like but unfortunately it is a must, as any business owner knows. The winter is generally a slower time for me since I photograph outdoors (except for maternity and babies) so that is when I work on all of the other “stuff”. I like to get everything ready ahead of time, because once the end of Spring rolls around I swing into high gear with sessions near my home on Lake Keowee near Greenville SC, AND I start making monthly trips to southwestern PA near the Pittsburgh area.
I know a lot of photographers read my blog – if you are looking for high quality templates and solid business support as you work on your own marketing strategy, head on over to Photographer Cafe!
