Photographing Children With Their Parents & Grandparents
I have been a professional photographer for over 12 years now, photographing hundreds of children and families. During that time I’ve also photographed engagements, weddings, newborns, maternity, family reunions, dogs and cats and even horses! But as the years pass and my style evolves, I’ve slowly grown more focused on the kind of work that I love best – children with their parents and grandparents.
Custom, quality professional portrait photography is definitely an investment for most of us, of time and money. We want to make sure that we love the results and that we will enjoy it for years to come. Great photos of your family can indeed be treasured for generations! It makes sense to me that images like these be something that worth saving and passing on to your children.
Think about that for a minute. Which do you think will mean more to your kids when they are grown – a picture of them as a toddler snuggled on your lap, or a picture of them in angel wings, or in front of a fake apple stand? Props and styled sessions have their place, but they aren’t heirlooms and they sure aren’t timeless.
I make sure that every family session of mine includes images of each child with each parent. Not just images from afar…but real, close up, show-that-he-has-my-eyes images. THESE are the images that your family loves so much.
I know that it can feel hard to get everybody together and ready for a photo session. I also know that it can feel uncomfortable to be photographed. That’s why I made sure that, before I tried to convince you that it was something that was easier than you thought and more worthwhile than you thought, I would do it MYSELF. I made this little video to share my thoughts about the process. I hope you like it, and I hope you take it to heart!
