Clemson SC and Lake Keowee SC Natural Maternity Portraits
I don’t really market my maternity sessions anymore, because it became too difficult to fit them into my somewhat limited PA schedule…which is one weekend a month from May to October. But I’m always happy to do them when the stars align and the timing works out! This couple was actually visiting family at Lake Keowee near Clemson SC with only six weeks to go before they met their princess, so it worked perfectly.
The day of the session turned out to be wickedly hot and humid, though. Fortunately, I prefer to do my maternity images with studio lights and a simple black background to keep the focus on the couple and their relationship, so we were happily ensconced in my air-conditioned home for most of these.
We also knew that we wanted to get at least one epic shot on the lake with the mountains in the background. With a little help from Dh and Adalin’s friend Kate, we boated out to a nearby island where the light was fading to twilight and captured some great images using off camera flash. The whole process only took minutes, and I love the results!
My vision of perfect maternity images doesn’t quite fit with the current Pinterest trends – little shoes on the belly, chalkboard signs with “ready to pop” on them, child’s blocks with the name, etc. Those things, to me, will look completely dated in a few years (think of every pro picture from the 80’s that you see). What WON’T look dated are the happy faces of an excited mom-and-dad-to-be!
The best part? This baby girl will have these images to keep forever. She will always know exactly how much she was wanted and loved, and what could be better than that?
